What VACIT covers on a mapping job

VACIT provides full utility mapping. A job starts with the plans, asset owner information and site records that already exist, adds electromagnetic tracing across the work area, and brings in ground penetrating radar where the records and the tracing leave gaps.

The purpose is a clearer picture of the work area before design or excavation decisions are made. It describes what could be investigated across that area, and it does not certify that every service present has been found.

Agree the outcome before the job is booked

Different projects need different things from a mapping job. Some need the work area investigated and the findings walked through on site. Others need a record that can be handed to a designer, a file in a particular format, survey-grade coordinates, or work carried out to a specific subsurface information standard. Raise what your project needs with the enquiry so the scope, the method and the right provider can be confirmed before the job is booked.

How public records fit alongside it

Council and utility-authority mapping tools are useful and free, and worth sending with your enquiry. Brisbane City Council states that its community maps are provided for general information purposes only and show the approximate location of assets such as stormwater, sewer, water and recycled water. Records held by any asset owner describe that owner's own infrastructure as recorded, so coverage and detail vary. On-site investigation looks at the work area itself.

Where physical exposure adds to the picture

Records and non-intrusive investigation indicate where services are likely to be rather than exactly where a particular service sits. Where a service is critical to the design or to the excavation, careful vacuum or hydro excavation can expose it so its position can be seen at that point, and that verified point can be carried into the mapping. What is confirmed is the asset exposed at that location.

Utility mapping across Brisbane and the Gold Coast

VACIT maps sites in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ipswich, Logan, the Sunshine Coast and the wider South East Queensland corridor, with crews dispatched from 55 Seaview Road, Mount Cotton. Send the site boundary or the work area with your enquiry so the survey is quoted against something specific. Site conditions and asset records both change over time, so tell the team when the works are planned.

Talk through the site first

Send the work area, not just the address.

Give VACIT the site boundary, the plans and asset owner information you already hold, and what the mapping has to let your team decide. That is enough to scope the survey and confirm what the crew can deliver.
